Battery systems (Battery Energy Storage Systems or BESS) are growing rapidly in Sweden. Internationally, battery systems are one of the fastest growing investment areas in the energy system. BESS is used, among other things, to stabilize the electricity grid and can contribute when there is little inertia in the electricity system. It can also be used to move electricity from one point in time to another, which is also beneficial for the electricity grid. BESS is a crucial component in being able to integrate large amounts of renewable electricity production.
