Solar power is currently the fastest growing form of energy at global and European level. Despite good solar radiation, Sweden still lags far behind other comparable countries. Solar power is expected to play an increasingly important role in the Swedish energy system. More and more players are now investing in large-scale solar power, which can be built quickly. By 2024, approximately 5 gigawatts (GW) of solar power had been installed in Sweden, but an additional 20 GW from solar parks was awaiting approval from the county administrative boards. In the coming years, the number of solar parks and the installed capacity are expected to increase significantly.
