Our Purpose
We are a unifying voice in the debate for a modern energy system that grows in step with society's increasing need for more electricity. We work to ensure that the full potential for competitive renewable electricity production, together with storage and flexibility, is utilized in Sweden. We want to contribute to a sustainable and competitive Sweden.
Our members operate throughout the value chain for wind power, solar power and energy storage. Our member companies include power companies, manufacturers, municipal energy companies, planners, landowners, financial investors, banks, law firms, large electricity users, consulting companies and sub- and component suppliers.
We make climate change and strengthened competitiveness possible when Swedish industry is electrified, and then exports goods and services made with Swedish-made green electricity.
Sweden's green investments require secure access to electricity at a competitive price. When the need for electricity grows, our industry is ready to deliver electricity production and solutions that can be put into operation in line with society's increasing needs. In this way, Sweden is building a secure electricity system that contributes to jobs and investments in Sweden.
Long-term rules of the game are a prerequisite for an attractive investment climate in Sweden. In close cooperation with the industry, we are pushing for a long-term and stable political consensus with a fossil-free energy system by 2045 as the goal.
The electrification of Sweden requires an energy system with several types of power and several solutions where storage and flexibility are central parts. In the modern energy system, wind power, solar power, energy storage and other available technologies will be developed and interact with consumer flexibility.
The goal of Green Power Sweden is to create better conditions for large-scale onshore and offshore wind power, large-scale solar power and energy storage – and to work to ensure that the full potential of the interaction between these technologies and industries becomes a reality. The public debate is increasingly highlighting the need for a systems perspective in energy and climate policy. This requires a unifying voice from the electricity production that can be put in place in time for Sweden's electrification to become a reality.
Green Power Sweden was formed in 2025 when the Swedish Wind Energy Association broadened its operations. The Swedish Wind Energy Association and the Solar Park Network were thus united under the same organization and a new unifying voice for large-scale wind power, large-scale solar power and energy storage took shape.
We look forward to continuing to drive Sweden's electrification together with our members.
The Swedish Wind Energy Association was formed in 2008. The first general meeting was held in May 2009. The Swedish Wind Energy Association was formed through a merger of Vindkraftens Investerare och Projektörer (VIP) and Vindkraftsleventörerna i Sverige (ViS). The merger meant in practice that ViS changed its name to Svensk Vindenergi (Swedish Wind Energy Association), adopted new statutes and that VIP's member companies became members of the Swedish Wind Energy Association through absorption.
The non-profit association Svensk Vindkraftförening (SVIF) was offered to be part of the merger in the early 2000s, but declined. Over the years, the Swedish Wind Energy Association and SVIF have collaborated on many issues because the associations share a similar goal.
The statutes of the Swedish Wind Energy Association have remained largely the same since the association was formed in 2008. The association's vision and purpose have been clear from the start: to strengthen the position of wind power in society and contribute to a sustainable electricity and energy system.
Since 2008, the Swedish Wind Energy Association and our members have been important players in the work with ambitious, realistic Swedish energy and climate goals and in demonstrating the possibilities of wind power. By 2025, the organization had approximately 160 member companies.
Large-scale solar parks that are established entirely on commercial terms, i.e. without support, took off in 2020. The Solar Park Network was founded in 2021 by a number of solar park actors and stepped up its work as its own industry organization in the fall of 2023. The network worked on issues related to large-scale solar power on land, so-called solar parks.
The network has focused on improving the opportunities for solar parks when it comes to permit and grid connection issues and to create insight into the fact that electricity production from solar parks will become an important part of Sweden's energy system already in the years up to 2030. Since 2023, the organization has had around 20 member companies.
